Senior Presentation Night 2020/21

Our Senior Presentation Night was held on Saturday 10th April to celebrate the accomplishments of our senior squad over season 2020/21. With one premiership (GCBA Div 1) and a runner-up (GBL Div 2) it was an accomplished season for Surfers Baseball as we usher in a significant change across our senior playing ranks over the past year with 75% of the senior playing group under the age of 24. Some exciting times are ahead for Surfers Baseball!

During the night we were able to award long-serving Club President Tony McPhail with a prestigious award, officially unveiling the Tony McPhail Club House… it was meant to be awarded last year but COVID lockdowns prevented us from sharing this award.

On the night, we also acknowledged the long standing service of our GBL scorers Connie Stoyakovich and Bette Holland who have served our GBL teams for the past 19 years and we are certainly expecting to see them again as we celebrate our 20 year anniversary of participation in the Greater Brisbane League in season 2021/22.

Our key award winners on the night included:

  • GBL Div 1 MVP: Ben Grant
  • GBL Div 2 MVP: Brad Wise
  • GCBA Div 1 MVP: Owen Drinkwater
  • GCBA Div 2 MVP: Rob Carlson
  • U20’s MVP: Ethan Clarke
  • Coach of the year: Ben Morris
  • Trent Durrington Award for junior player of the year: Hannah Marshall
  • President’s Award: Andrew McDonald
  • Club Person of the Year: Kim & Mark Rawlings

Junior Presentation Day 2021

Sunshine a plenty at Surfers this morning as we hosted our junior presentation day for season 2020/21. With 5 of our 6 junior Surfers teams very well represented in grand finals next week it certainly has been a great year for our junior teams. Massive thanks to all our volunteer coaches, scorers, umpires, grounds and canteen crews and organisers behind the scenes. Without your contribution the season would not have been the success that it was.

Congratulations to the following special award recipients:
Junior Coach of the Year: Ben Morris
Junior coordinator’s award for his outstanding contribution: Deegan Powell
Junior club person of the year: Bec Jones
Holders of the Wayne Dyer Memorial Cup: Surfers Little League Majors. This is a trophy provided by the Gold Coast Baseball Umpires Association in honour of the late great Runaway Bay and Surfers club man and umpire Wayne Dyer, which the little league sides of Runaway Bay and Surfers vie for when they play each other through the season.
